A letter doing the rounds among individuals and businesses around Groblersdal has been described as fraudulent by the national Dept of Agriculture (Dalrrd).

The letter purports to solicit bids for the erection of a 40km diamond mesh fence around the new small farmer settlement of Tafelkop.

Those interested in bidding for construction work are requested to deposit and upfront payment of R3 000 into an untraceable money market account, after which the fraudsters disappear without trace.

The letter is printed on a genuine Dalrrd letterhead, says the department, and is “signed” by a known departmental official, Mr L Mahloromela, but an incorrect email address and cellphone number is given.

Dalrrd urges anybody tempted to tender for the fencing contract to verify the information they are given with the department before parting with money.
