On 18 July, volunteers can spend time at Little Eden Society at one of the organisation’s homes in Bapsfontein or Edenvale. This will form part of the annual Mandela Day celebrations, in which citizens donate 67 minutes of their time to improving the lives of others and assisting the community to gain a better understanding of the Society’s mission and cause.
This year’s Mandela Day theme is “Climate, Food & Solidarity”, and the organisation, currently in its 56th year of existence, is encouraging anyone who is interested in making a difference and creating a lasting impact in the lives of those with intellectual disabilities, to join us on this day of service.
Participants will take part in fun activities with the residents, maintenance work, or sorting out donations in the Charity Shop Depot. Visitors can donate disposable nappies, instant porridge or soft cereals for the residents. The Little Eden Charity Shop will also accept secondhand items.
“It’s an ideal opportunity to make a difference and help to celebrate one of South Africa’s most inspiring leaders and icons, Nelson Mandela,” said CEO of Little Eden Xelda Rohrbeck. “We’d love as many people as possible to join us on the day, to help us continue our work in providing care and support for the 300 children and adults living with profound intellectual disability being cared for at our Homes.”
Date: 18 July 2023
Time: 09h00 to 15h00
Those interested in participating on the day should email Relationship Officer Danica Savvi on dss@littleeden.org.za, alternatively they may call the Society on 011 609 7246.
